Welcome to Soon Wah Fishball Kway Teow Mee in Singapore. This stall is only open for a few days and hours, but it’s one of my favourite places for a delicious and comforting meal of mee pork and springy fishballs. Soon, Wah Fishball, established in 1966 at Gluttons Square, continued to make its fishballs and dumplings by hand, just like it had done when it started.

Moreover, their large, homemade fish balls are chewy and bursting with a delicious fish taste. However, you are trying their delicate, slippery fish dumplings called her-kiao. These dumplings have seasoned minced pork and sole fish inside, wrapped in a thin skin of fish paste and sweet potato starch. The slimy texture might initially seem playful, making you think it’s a regular fish dumpling. But don’t be fooled; this is nothing like the tasteless factory-made ones.

A soft and moist fishball reminds us of our childhood when mom would put a few in our rice soup and playfully try to get us to eat lunch by chasing us around the house. They put a lot of effort into making these ingredients from scratch with flavors that bring back fond memories. It’s a special place where everything is made with care and love.
