Had a great lunch with my colleagues. We actually went to a restaurant nearby and waited so long we walked away. Muthu's was fast. Within 15 mins we got our food and enjoyed our meals. Vegetarian biryani and gobi manchurian was good
First things first - the food and ambience was great. We were a group of 7 with some visitors from the US who loved the whole experience and the food. And that's why the 3 stars. Now moving to the unpleasantries -1. The team of servers know very well how to upsell and use the situation to their advantage! They're probably trained in this. The server who took our order gave an annoyed look when we asked him to repeat the order. I didn't take it seriously until we saw many of our orders being upscaled. We literally paid around $100 more for things we didn't order. But as I said, it was a group with visitors and we didn't want to create a ruckus; and the fact that they loved the food, we just let it be.2. The price of their tiger prawns is $42 for 5 pieces. Did we order it? The waiter asked if we wanted some prawns and some said they were ok with masala prawns, we never knew this was the dish that we would get. The server tactically chose to simply order the most expensive prawn for us. Again taking advantage of the situation!3. They just know how to make some easy money out of a group. We ordered one bbq lamb, we were given 2 plates of lamb shanks and charged for 3. Again, the fault was on our part as well, as we didn't check before we paid. Even though you're in SG, it's a lesson for us to not trust these money-minded restaurants to be loyal!4. We never ordered the fish, but were served 2 plates of fish tikka. Again as we were with visitors and they were happy to try it, we let it be.The servers only want you to order more and more. Probably they get some benefits out of this. We wanted to stick to one naan basket, one gravy but the server insisted we get more. Even though we politely refused, they will bring it and leave it on our table for us to eat. We ultimately had to pack them!I got to know this is their usual practice after I read a few negative reviews after getting back home.Lessons learnt and would insist people to follow:Even if the waiters are annoyed and irritated as they want to give you all wrong orders and make you eat and pay, please ask them to repeat your order and make sure to inform them if they serve you something that you've not ordered. Also, please please check your bill and try to ask them for explanation if you're not sure of the costs. They tactically make advantage of larger groups and probably it's bcoz nobody minds that they repeatedly keep doing these kinda things. We forked out more, when what we actually ordered could have easily been $100 lesser if they had sticked to our original order - the extra plate of lamb that we never got, the 2 fish tikkas that we never ordered but ate coz it was given, the extra gravy that was given to us on their own coz they thought 2 naan baskets will need 2 pots of gravies. And the server never mention much about the free flow rice, he was very secretive and only mumbled! And we were very much aware that it's a bit on the pricey side and we're okay with it. It's just their attitude and the wrong orders that we're not okay with. Will I come back? Probably yes, coz of the food and ambience that is good for large groups. But will surely be aware to not be fooled by their upselling business tactics!
Could not believe this is a Michelin’s recommended place. It’s been a long time since I’ve been here and sadly to say, I’ll not come back again.I ordered the curry fish head, chicken tikka and chicken biriyani. The expectation of the curry fish head was high but was the biggest disappointment. Not much taste, more towards blend with lots of unnecessary spices. Chicken tikka was not bad but the biriyani was also terrible. Rice was cold and stale.Let’s come to the service. The server, an Indian guy who took my order was kind of rude and distracted. When taking my order, he was also at the same time talking loudly to other Indian servers. I had to repeat my order thrice. He didn’t seem to be happy working there. He was very uninterested when I asked him a question about the menu and gave the “would u hurry up” face. When he came back with the glasses and water, he slammed it on the table loudly. Only when i stared at him, he retracted back. I didn’t get his name though but I could recognize him. Ironically, the friendliest server was a Chinese lady server that day.For the price you are paying, it’s definitely not worth it for the food and the service. Both are terrible. The management should do something about most of the servers there. Their attitude seems that they own the restaurant or they are not interested to receive any customers.I urge anybody or tourist or what’s to visit this restaurant to try other authentic Singapore Indian food elsewhere. You will be getting better food and service elsewhere
food was very authentic and service was quick. although the pricing will definitely be slightly higher than ur usual indian street spot. this restaurant is well air conditioned and has proper plating and service so price is definitely what you get. staff also abit too eager... clearing plates before we leave the table even. the place wasn't packed so i feel like such etiquette should be rectified to enhance customer experience
Good Indian food here. Fish head curry is a must. Quite a big portion of fish head here. Butter chicken was also good.It was getting mire crowded at dinner time. Reservation might be required at dinner time. Luckily we came slightly before dinner time.Price was expensive though. 4 adults cost me SGD 200+
22/07/23Have higher expectations for Michelin restaurants. Fish head curry is average. The curry has full flavour of curry spices but lack of savoury. Curry chicken has similar taste too. Overall food is only slightly above average.
My first visit to this restaurant was a memorable one. The food was remarkably tasty, and the staff’s friendly and attentive nature added an extra touch of warmth. I will definitely be returning for more delightful meals and their top-notch service.
